3 - The First Appointment With The Doctor During the very first appointment with the surgeon, the patient describes his/her requirements and expectations towards the results of the surgery. The doctor gathers a detailed historic of the patients life related to his/her health condition, including previous surgeries, medicine that is being taken, allergies to certain medicines, heart problems, breathing problems, hemorrhages, metabolism problems, infections, traumas, among others. Then the doctor examines the patient looking for issues that were not covered by the first chat. The area of the that will be operated is thoroughly examined. The doctors job on this
first contact is facilitated by the patient who brings a
diagnostic and the surgery chosen (I have a big
nose and I want to have a nasal plastic surgery). fter that, the surgeon tries to explain the whole surgery process, including, for example, type of anesthesia, the post-surgery period and possible results. All questions must be clearly answered. The surgeon must explain the process even though some patients dont ask any questions. The surgeon also explain the methods he will apply to achieve the expected result, with emphasis to the difficulties to reach such result, by the individual response to the surgery. The surgeon will apply the best of knowledge, but the end result also depends to the patient reaction. After the diagnostic is
finished and the surgery procedure is established,
several exams are requested in order to make the surgeon
fully aware of the patients organic conditions.
The common exams and any other specific exams that the
doctor considers necessary are requested. The
doctor may also need to consult and discuss with other
doctors, specialized in other areas such as
cardiologists, general clinic, mastologist. It is very important to take pictures of several angles of the patient in order to keep documentation that will allow the identification of changes that sometimes can not be identified by a clinical exam. These pictures can be taken by the surgeon himself/herself or by a professional photographer, and will be private. They will be kept with the patients related information within the doctors document file and will not be used without the patients consent. Only in medical meetings are these pictures allowed to be shown. Pictures are also taken during the post-surgery period in order to evaluate results. The surgery can be documented in pictures or video as well. |
